The August 26 Thank You and Order Status Page Deadline for Non-Plus Stores
Plus stores went through this last August. Now it's everyone else's turn. On August 26, 2026, script tags stop running on the order status page for all non-Plus stores, and older customizations on the thank you and order status pages need to be replaced. If your store tracks conversions there, three weeks is enough time, but only if you start now.

Key Points
- August 26, 2026 is the deadline for non-Plus stores to upgrade their thank you and order status pages.
- Script tags stop running on the order status page for non-Plus stores on that date.
- Move tracking to web pixels and on-page content to app blocks in the checkout and accounts editor.
- Shopify's upgrade guide in Settings > Checkout lists your current customizations and app compatibility.
- Test conversion tracking with real orders after you upgrade, well before the deadline.
What Happens on August 26
Shopify has been moving checkout onto a new foundation, checkout extensibility, since in-checkout pages lost checkout.liquid customizations in August 2024. The thank you and order status pages followed. For Plus stores, script tags stopped running on the order status page on August 28, 2025. Shopify's developer documentation sets August 26, 2026 as the date script tags stop running there for all other stores.
Apps haven't been able to create new order status script tags since February 1, 2025. After a store's date passes, any customization an app made to the order status page with a script tag stops working. The same applies to the additional scripts box many stores used to add tracking code to these pages.
What Could Break
Most non-Plus stores don't have heavy customizations on these pages. What they do have is tracking that someone added years ago and nobody remembers. Look for:
- Conversion tags for Google Ads, Meta, TikTok, or Pinterest pasted into additional scripts.
- Affiliate or influencer tracking pixels that fire on purchase.
- Post-purchase surveys or review prompts.
- Custom messages, such as delivery notes, referral offers, or upsells.
- Scripts that send order details to an email tool, CRM, or analytics platform.
What Replaces Them
Shopify's documentation gives two replacements. For tracking analytics, conversions, or customer behaviour, use web pixels. Many ad and analytics apps provide an app pixel you manage in the admin, and custom pixels cover the rest. For content that shows on the page, use blocks from apps built for checkout and customer accounts, added in the checkout and accounts editor.
The difference matters. Web pixels work on any store but can't display anything. Customer account UI extensions can display content, but only on stores that have upgraded. So a visual customization has no replacement until you upgrade.
Using the Upgrade Guide
Shopify builds an upgrade guide for each store. Go to Settings > Checkout and look at the Configurations section. If you see an upgrade notice, you're still on the older pages. Open the guide to see your current customizations, the installed apps that work with the new pages and the ones that do not.
For each compatible app, follow its steps to set up the pixel or add its blocks. For incompatible apps, contact the developer or find an alternative. When you upgrade, your existing pages and their customizations are replaced, so copy any additional scripts somewhere safe first. You'll want a record of what each one did.
Test Tracking Before the Deadline
The real risk is quiet: conversion data stops flowing, and you only notice when ad performance looks wrong a week later. After you upgrade, place a few test orders and confirm each platform records the purchase with the right value. Compare daily conversion counts in each ad platform for a week before and after the switch. If something has dropped, there's still time to fix it before August 26 and before the fall promotions start.
This Week
This week, open the upgrade guide and copy out everything in your additional scripts. Assign each item to a pixel, an app block, or removal. Upgrade by mid-August, test with real orders, and keep a week in hand before the deadline.
