What Shopify's Spring '26 Edition Means for Merchants
Shopify released its Spring '26 Edition on June 17 with more than 150 updates under one idea: wherever shoppers buy, Shopify merchants should already be there. Shopify Catalog and the Universal Commerce Protocol are now on by default, AI channels have a proper home in the admin, and POS gets a faster checkout. These are the parts we think are worth acting on this summer.

Key Points
- Shopify Catalog and UCP are enabled by default for Shopify merchants with eligible products.
- Agentic Storefronts in the admin now show orders, sales, and conversions by AI channel in one view.
- Search intelligence shows the top AI queries in your category and where you don't show up.
- Sidekick connects to more apps and appears on every screen in the Shopify app.
- POS v11 keeps the cart on screen through the whole sale and saves time on complex carts.
Catalog and UCP Are On by Default
Shopify describes Catalog and UCP as the infrastructure behind this Edition. Catalog structures your product data and sends it to AI channels such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and the Shop app, with no extra apps or feeds. UCP, the open standard Shopify built with Google, sets out how agents and merchants interact from discovery to checkout. For Shopify merchants with eligible products, both are on by default, and UCP carries your checkout rules, discounts, and customizations into any surface built with it.
Shopify says AI searches powered by Catalog convert at twice the rate of searches using scraped data. That may not hold for every store, but the point is sound: structured, complete product data is what agents read best.
AI Channels Get a Home in the Admin
Agentic Storefronts now has a central place in the admin. You can see which AI channels are active and control product discovery and direct checkout for each one. Orders, sales, and conversions from ChatGPT, Copilot, AI Mode in Google Search, the Gemini app, and Shop appear in one view.
Two features stand out. Search intelligence shows the top AI queries in your category, which ones you rank for and where you're missing. And when your products appear in AI conversations but don't sell, Sidekick suggests fixes, such as adding specifications to titles or filling in missing product details. Shopify shared that Omnilux saw AI channels drive 3.2% of total revenue in March, which shows these channels are starting to matter for some brands.
Sidekick and Marketing Updates
Beyond AI channels, the merchant updates we'd look at are these.
- Sidekick App Extensions connect third-party apps such as Klaviyo, Loop, and Smile, live for more than 15 partners.
- Sidekick Pulse recommendations now lead a redesigned admin home.
- Sidekick is on every screen in the Shopify mobile app, by typing or voice.
- A new AI sales associate in Inbox answers buyer questions on your storefront, with control over tone and handoff to a person.
- Shop Campaigns now reaches ChatGPT, Pinterest, and the open web. You pay only on conversion.
- Campaign Autopilot runs AI marketing campaigns across Facebook, Instagram, Shop, and email, in early access.
Shop and POS
For brands with stores, retail locations now appear in the Shop app, and product pages can show local inventory for in-store pickup. Returns started in Shop can be finished at your counter with a QR code. POS v11 keeps the cart on screen through the entire sale, with discounts, edits, and customer lookups in a side panel. Shopify says staff save over a minute on complex cart builds. The Verifone Victa mobile is new hardware that scans, takes payments, and works as a countertop terminal.
What to Act On This Summer
Our short list: open Agentic Storefronts, check which channels are on, and review search intelligence for the queries you miss. Fix the product data gaps it points to before the fall. If you run stores, plan the POS v11 update and test Shop app pickup and returns before the holiday season. Treat Campaign Autopilot as something to test against your current marketing, not a replacement, since it's still in early access.
Pick One Metric
Pick one AI channel metric to track from now to BFCM, such as AI-attributed orders, and set a baseline this month. Then work through the product data fixes Sidekick and search intelligence suggest, starting with your best sellers.
