A Final Shopify Scripts Migration Plan Before Editing Ends April 15
Shopify has confirmed the final timeline for Shopify Scripts. From April 15, 2026, you can no longer edit or publish Scripts. From June 30, all Scripts stop running. If your Plus store still relies on Scripts for discounts, shipping, or payments, this is the plan we'd follow in the weeks you have left.

Key Points
- April 15, 2026: editing and publishing Shopify Scripts is no longer possible.
- June 30, 2026: all Shopify Scripts stop running.
- The Scripts customizations report shows each active Script and suggests apps or Functions to replace it.
- Replace each Script with an app built on Functions or with your own Functions.
- Test replacements fully before you turn off the Script they replace.
The Timeline Is Now Fixed
Shopify has said since early 2025 that the deadline to migrate off Scripts is June 30, 2026. Its March 12 changelog adds a second date. From April 15, you can no longer edit or publish Scripts. From June 30, they stop running entirely.
The April date matters more than it looks. After April 15, if a Script has a bug or needs a change for a promotion, you can't fix it. Your Scripts are frozen for their last two and a half months, so plan any summer promotions on the new setup.
June 30 is a hard stop. Shopify hasn't described a grace period, and a Script that stops running doesn't fail loudly. A discount simply stops applying, a shipping rate reappears, or a payment method shows up where it should not. Customers notice before you do, so every Script needs a tested replacement in place before that date.
Step One: Read Your Customizations Report
Shopify launched the Scripts customizations report in February 2025. In your admin, go to Apps > Script Editor and use the Replace your Shopify Scripts banner. The report groups your Scripts into payment, shipping, and product discount sections. For each, it shows the customization, links to recommended apps built on Shopify Functions, and links to the relevant Functions guides. You can also export it as a CSV.
Review each item and decide whether you still need it. Some Scripts were written for promotions that ended years ago. Those can simply be left to expire.
Step Two: Choose an App or Custom Functions
For each customization you keep, choose how to rebuild it. Shopify says some can be recreated by installing an existing app built on Functions, and others need a custom build using a Functions API.
- Use an app when the logic is common, such as tiered discounts, hiding a payment method, or renaming shipping rates.
- Build custom Functions when the logic is specific to your business, such as B2B pricing rules or complex bundles.
- Check whether built-in Shopify discounts already cover simpler cases before you install anything.
Step Three: Test, Then Switch
Shopify's guidance is to deactivate a Script only after you've tested its replacement. Test with real cart scenarios: different customer tags, discount combinations, shipping destinations, and payment methods. Include your B2B customers and any wholesale price lists if you have them, and run the tests on a development or staging store where you can. Write down what each Script did before you switch, so you can check the replacement against it.
Functions run on a faster platform than Scripts. Shopify says they execute in under 5 milliseconds, which helps during flash sales. They're also installed as apps and configured in the admin, so changes no longer need code edits.
How Much Time You Have Left
If you haven't started, you still have time, but not much. A store with a handful of discount Scripts can usually move in a few weeks. A store with complex shipping and payment logic will need longer, so plan around April 15, when Script editing ends.
We covered the customizations report when it launched last year. The steps haven't changed. The window has just got shorter.
This Week
This week, open your customizations report, export it, and mark each Script as keep or retire. Make any final Script edits before April 15. Then schedule the rebuild and testing so every replacement is live well before June 30.
