The August 28 Thank You Page Deadline for Shopify Plus Stores
On August 28, 2025, Shopify turns off checkout.liquid, additional scripts, and app script tags on the thank you and order status pages for Plus stores. If your tracking or post-purchase content still depends on them, you have about three weeks.

Key Points
- August 28, 2025 is the removal date for checkout.liquid, additional scripts, and app script tags on Plus thank you and order status pages.
- Since February 1, 2025, apps can't create new script tags for the order status page.
- Tracking should move to web pixels, and page content to checkout and customer account blocks.
- Shopify generates a personalized upgrade guide in Settings, then Checkout.
- Test conversion tracking right after the upgrade, while there's still time before the deadline.
What Changes on August 28
Shopify has been moving checkout to a new foundation, known as checkout extensibility, that's more secure and survives upgrades. In-checkout pages lost checkout.liquid on August 13, 2024. The thank you and order status pages are next. For Plus merchants, August 28, 2025 is the removal date for checkout.liquid, apps that use script tags, and additional scripts on those two pages.
Shopify's developer documentation adds that since February 1, 2025, apps haven't been able to create new script tags that load on the order status page. From August 28, any existing ones stop running on Plus stores. Any customization an app made with a script tag stops working once the date passes.
What Could Break
Additional scripts are where many stores put conversion tracking years ago, and they're easy to forget. Check whether any of these still live there.
- Ad platform conversion tags, such as Google Ads, Meta, or TikTok.
- Affiliate and influencer tracking pixels.
- Post-purchase surveys and review requests.
- Custom content, such as delivery messages, upsell offers, or a referral prompt.
- Scripts that pass order data to an analytics tool or a CRM.
What Replaces Them
There are two replacements. For tracking analytics, conversions, or customer behaviour, use web pixels. Many ad and analytics apps now offer an app pixel you can manage in the admin, and custom pixels cover the rest. For content on the page, use blocks from apps built for checkout and customer accounts, which you add in the checkout and accounts editor.
Shopify's documentation notes an important difference. Web pixels work on any store but can't show anything on the page. Customer account UI extensions can show content, but only on stores that have upgraded. So a visual customization has no replacement until you upgrade.
Using the Upgrade Guide
Shopify generates a personalized upgrade guide for each store. To find it, go to Settings, then Checkout, and look at the Configurations section. If an upgrade notice shows there, you're still on the older pages. Click Review to open the guide.
The guide lists your existing customizations, installed apps that have been updated to work with the new pages, and apps that have not. For compatible apps, follow the steps to set up their pixel or add their blocks. For incompatible ones, contact the developer or find an alternative. Check any custom pixels your developer set up as well. When you upgrade, your existing pages and their customizations are replaced by the new versions.
Before you click upgrade, take screenshots of your current thank you and order status pages on desktop and mobile, and copy out any custom text or scripts. That gives you a record to rebuild from and to compare against afterward.
Test Tracking Before the Deadline
The biggest risk is losing conversion data and not noticing until ad performance looks wrong a week later. After you upgrade, place test orders and confirm that each platform records the purchase with the right value. Compare daily conversion counts in your ad platforms for a week before and after. If something drops, you still have time to fix it before August 28.
Shopify has set a later date for non-Plus stores, so this deadline applies to Plus merchants now.
This Week
This week, open the upgrade guide and export a list of every customization on your thank you and order status pages. Assign each one to a pixel, a block, or removal. Upgrade by mid-August, test tracking with real orders, and leave a week of margin before the deadline.
