The Headline Numbers
Shopify says its merchants generated a record $14.6 billion in sales over the weekend, up 27% from last year, or 24% on a constant currency basis. More than 81 million customers bought from Shopify-powered businesses. Sales peaked at 12:01 p.m. EST on Black Friday at $5.1 million per minute.
More than 15,800 entrepreneurs made their first sale on Shopify over the weekend, and more than 94,900 merchants had their highest-selling day ever. The top-selling countries were the US, UK, Australia, Germany, and Canada.
How It Compares With 2024
Last year Shopify reported $11.5 billion, up 24%, with 76 million customers and a peak of $4.6 million per minute. Here's how some of the other figures moved, using Shopify's own numbers for both years. Shopify notes that its methods change between years, so treat the comparison as directional.
- The average cart price was $114.70 in 2025, up from $108.56 in 2024.
- More than 94,900 merchants had their best day ever, up from more than 67,000.
- Cross-border orders made up 16% of all orders in both years.
- Shop Pay sales grew 39% year over year, after 58% growth in 2024, and 32% of orders used it.
- Canada was fifth among top-selling countries, after placing fourth in 2024.
What Shoppers Bought
The hottest categories were cosmetics, clothing tops and pants, activewear, and fitness and nutrition. That's almost the same list as 2024, when Shopify named clothing tops, cosmetics, fitness and nutrition, pants, and activewear. If you sell in these categories, the weekend is now a fixed part of the year, and it's worth planning stock, staffing, and creative months ahead.
Shopify also says more than 136 million packages were tracked in the Shop App. That figure now includes packages from non-Shopify merchants, and on the same method 2024 would have been more than 104 million. Either way, post-purchase tracking is part of the experience shoppers expect, so make sure your shipping notifications are clear and accurate.
The Wider US Market
Adobe's US figures, reported by Retail Dive, tell a similar story. Cyber Monday online sales rose 7.1% to $14.25 billion, and the five days from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday brought in $44.2 billion, up 7.7%. Black Friday grew 9.1% to $11.8 billion, outpacing Cyber Monday growth for the second year in a row. Buy now, pay later spending passed $1 billion on Cyber Monday.
Retail Dive also reported that a system degradation temporarily limited some Shopify merchants' access to their admin over the weekend. Storefronts kept selling, but it's a reminder to have a plan for running the busiest days if a tool you rely on slows down.
Trends to Plan 2026 Around
Three things stand out to us. First, shoppers are buying earlier. If Black Friday keeps growing faster than Cyber Monday, your best offers and your inventory need to be ready by Thursday.
Second, accelerated checkout is now normal. With 32% of orders on Shop Pay, a checkout that hides express options or adds steps is losing sales. Third, cross-border demand is steady at 16% of orders. For Canadian merchants, that's a reason to keep pricing, duties, and shipping for US and international shoppers clear, especially after this year's de minimis changes.
Compare Your Own Weekend
