Native Shopify B2B Without Plus, and When Plus Still Makes Sense
On April 2, Shopify brought its native B2B features to merchants on the Basic, Grow, and Advanced plans at no extra cost. Until now, B2B on Shopify meant Shopify Plus or a patchwork of apps. This post covers what non-Plus merchants now get, the limits to know about, and when Plus still makes sense.

Key Points
- Basic, Grow, and Advanced plans now include native B2B features at no extra cost.
- That covers company profiles, up to 3 active B2B catalogs, payment terms, volume pricing, and vaulted cards.
- Unlimited catalogs, direct company catalogs, partial payments, and deposits stay on Plus.
- Shopify says merchants using its B2B see up to 33% more self-serve orders within six months.
- Moving from a non-Plus plan to Plus later doesn't require replatforming.
What Changed on April 2
Shopify's changelog says merchants on Basic, Grow, and Advanced can now sell wholesale using native B2B features in their admin. Shopify's announcement says these are refined from nearly four years of B2B on Plus, and that B2B has been one of the most requested features from non-Plus merchants.
Because B2B is built into the core platform, tools you already use for direct-to-consumer sales, such as Shopify Flow, Markets, and Shopify Payments, now work for B2B too. Wholesale and retail run from one admin.
Shopify puts the global B2B ecommerce market at $36 trillion. For most merchants, though, B2B starts small: a retailer asks about wholesale pricing, a customer wants to buy in bulk, or a trade show opens a new channel. Native features mean you can say yes to those requests without changing plans or adding another system.
What Non-Plus Plans Get
According to Shopify's changelog and announcement, non-Plus plans now include:
- Company profiles for wholesale buyers.
- Up to 3 active B2B catalogs with tailored pricing, assigned through Markets.
- Volume pricing and quantity rules.
- Payment terms.
- Vaulted credit cards, and ACH payments in the US.
What Stays on Plus
Shopify is clear about what remains Plus only: unlimited catalogs for customer-specific pricing, assigning catalogs directly to companies and company locations, partial payments, and deposits.
The catalog limit is the one most merchants will hit. Three catalogs is enough for a simple structure, such as one wholesale price list, one distributor list, and one for a key account. If you negotiate pricing account by account, or need a catalog for each company or location, you'll need Plus. The same is true if your buyers pay deposits or in instalments.
The Case for Native B2B
Shopify shared results from merchants already using its B2B. It says merchants see up to a 33% increase in self-serve orders within six months, and up to a 20% increase in reorder frequency. Snyder Performance Engineering, an automotive parts maker, reported a 25% reduction in time spent on back-office tasks and a 40% increase in average customer spend.
The problem native B2B solves is familiar to anyone running wholesale on workarounds. Shopify's example, DAX Eyewear, found buyers sometimes saw retail prices instead of their negotiated rates, and some never placed an order. Locked pages, separate pricing systems, and manual orders all add friction that native B2B removes.
What Native B2B Changes for Wholesale Brands
This is a big change for small and mid-sized brands that sell some wholesale alongside retail. Many have run B2B through a password-protected page, a separate store, or email orders because Plus wasn't worth it for that alone. That reason for waiting is gone.
We'd still look at Plus for brands where B2B is a large share of revenue, where pricing is negotiated per account, or where checkout customization and automation needs are growing. Shopify says moving up to Plus doesn't require replatforming, so starting on a non-Plus plan and upgrading later is a reasonable path.
Start With Your Price List
List your wholesale customers and how you price them. If your pricing fits into three catalogs, set up company profiles and a first catalog on your current plan and invite a few trusted buyers to test it. If it does not, compare the cost of Plus with the time your team spends on manual orders.
