The Shopify Plus B2B Wholesale Setup We Recommend
Shopify's B2B tools on Plus have filled in a lot over the last year. With the Winter '25 and Summer '25 Editions, many wholesale workarounds are no longer needed. This is the setup we recommend for brands that sell to retailers alongside their direct-to-consumer store.

Key Points
- Plus stores can create multiple B2B markets, each with its own catalogs, currency, and theme customizations.
- Draft orders now apply Shopify Functions rules and checkout extensions, so phone and email orders follow the same logic as online ones.
- Plus B2B merchants can collect deposits on draft orders and charge vaulted credit cards.
- Checkout Blocks can set minimum and maximum order values for B2B customers only.
- Most brands do best running wholesale in the same store as retail, with B2B catalogs and a gated storefront experience.
One Store or Two
Older wholesale setups often used a separate Shopify store for B2B, with its own products, inventory, and theme. That meant duplicate data and constant syncing. Shopify's native B2B on Plus lets you run wholesale in the same store as retail, sharing products and inventory while showing B2B buyers their own prices, payment terms, and checkout rules.
For most brands we work with, one store is the right starting point. A second store still makes sense when the wholesale business has a very different catalogue, brand, or legal entity.
The Foundations
The B2B setup is built from a few pieces that fit together.
- Each wholesale customer is a company, with one or more locations and the buyers allowed to order for them.
- Catalogs are price lists and product selections assigned to B2B markets. Summer '25 lets Plus stores create multiple B2B markets, each with its own catalogs, currency, and storefront customizations.
- Payment terms cover net terms by company or location, with vaulted credit cards for customers who pay by card.
- Quantity rules and price breaks set minimums, maximums, and increments for case packs, with volume pricing.
- The free Checkout Blocks app can set minimum and maximum order values for B2B customers only.
Draft Orders for Sales Teams
Many wholesale orders still come in by phone, email, or at trade shows. Draft orders handle these. A sales rep creates the order for a company, and the customer's pricing and payment terms apply automatically. Shopify's Winter '25 update means checkout rules, payment and delivery customizations built with Shopify Functions now run in draft orders too, so a phone order follows the same rules as an online one.
Plus B2B merchants can also set and collect deposits on draft orders, which is useful for large or made-to-order wholesale orders. They can charge a vaulted card to turn a draft into an order without asking the buyer to re-enter details.
The Buyer Experience
Wholesale buyers want speed. They know what they order, so give them a quick order list, easy reorders, and clear stock levels. Shopify's Summer '25 Edition added a View As option so you can preview exactly what a B2B buyer sees, which saves a lot of back-and-forth during setup.
Customer accounts matter here too. With customer account extensions, apps can add self-serve tools for quotes, invoices, and bulk ordering inside the buyer's account.
Connect Your Back Office
Wholesale usually involves an ERP or accounting system. Shopify updated its NetSuite connector for Plus to sync companies, orders, PO numbers, and payment terms. It also says nine more apps are now compatible with B2B, including broader QuickBooks integration. Map which system owns each piece of data, such as customers, prices, inventory, and invoices, before you connect anything, so the systems don't overwrite each other.
Plan for the edge cases early. Decide how you'll handle a retailer that also buys as a consumer, a buyer who orders for several store locations, and a customer who needs tax exemption. These details are simple to set up at the start and awkward to fix once orders are flowing.
Map It Out First
List your wholesale customers, their price levels, payment terms, and how they order today. Group them into catalogs and B2B markets, decide which orders will come through the storefront and which through draft orders, and agree which system owns each type of data. With that plan, setup is mostly configuration, with little custom development.
