What the Commerce Rebrand Means for BigCommerce Stores
On July 31, BigCommerce Holdings changed its name to Commerce.com and launched Commerce as a parent brand over BigCommerce, Feedonomics, and Makeswift. If you run a BigCommerce store, the platform you log into hasn't changed. The company's direction has, and its own filings show where it's putting its effort.

Key Points
- BigCommerce Holdings is now Commerce.com, Inc., and its stock moves from the BIGC ticker to CMRC at the open of trading on August 1.
- BigCommerce, Feedonomics, and Makeswift keep their names. Commerce says products, account teams, data, settings, and integrations stay the same.
- Contracts are being updated to the new legal entity name and terms from July 31. Commerce says it doesn't anticipate billing, policy, or pricing changes at this time.
- The new strategy centres on agentic commerce and product data, with new Google Cloud, Perplexity, and PROS partnerships.
- Enterprise accounts now make up 76% of the company's annual revenue run-rate, which is worth weighing if you're a smaller merchant.
What Changed
BigCommerce Holdings announced its new parent brand, Commerce, on July 31 and changed its corporate name to Commerce.com, Inc. The company's Form 8-K says the name change took effect on July 31 through an amendment filed in Delaware the day before, and that no shareholder vote was needed. It adds that the stock will begin trading on Nasdaq under CMRC, replacing BIGC, at the opening of trading on August 1. The corporate website is now commerce.com.
Commerce brings together three products. BigCommerce remains the ecommerce platform. Feedonomics handles product feeds and data across sales channels. Makeswift is a visual editor for building storefront pages. The company says all three brands will continue under their existing names.
What Commerce Says Stays the Same
Commerce's FAQ is the most useful document for store owners. It says the change won't affect how you use BigCommerce, Feedonomics, or Makeswift today. It also says your products, account team, data, settings, and integrations all stay the same. Customers keep working with their existing success managers, feed managers, and support teams.
Two details are worth noting. The Master Services Agreement and other contract forms are being updated with the new legal entity name and terms, effective July 31. And while Commerce says it doesn't anticipate changes to billing, policies, or pricing, it adds the words "at this time" and promises to communicate any updates. If you're near a renewal, read the updated terms before you renew.
The Strategy Behind It
The announcement centres on agentic commerce, where AI acts on behalf of shoppers to research, recommend, and even buy. CEO Travis Hess told Digital Commerce 360, "This is not a cosmetic change." The outlet reports that the company is moving from a single bundled platform toward an open, composable system that plugs into outside AI tools. It adds that BigCommerce stays as the core transaction engine.
The partnerships announced around the rebrand show what that means in practice. With Google Cloud, Feedonomics Surface, in closed beta for BigCommerce customers, sends product data to Google Merchant Center. New Feedonomics features use Gemini to enrich catalogues. BigCommerce's Model Context Protocol tools, also in closed beta, work with Google's Agent Development Kit so developers can build merchant agents.
In June, Commerce said it now provides Perplexity with structured product data for its customers' products. A new partnership with PROS adds AI pricing and quoting for B2B sellers.
Shopify is moving in a similar direction. Its Summer '25 Edition introduced Shopify Catalog, which lets apps and AI agents search real-time product data from Shopify merchants, and Storefront MCP for building brand shopping agents. Both companies are chasing the same idea. The real test is how well each one delivers it for your business.
What the Numbers Say
Commerce reported second quarter results the same morning. Revenue was $84.4 million, up 3% on a year earlier, and total annual revenue run-rate was $354.6 million, also up 3%. Run-rate from enterprise accounts grew 6% to $269.3 million and now makes up 76% of the total, up from 73% a year earlier.
The number of enterprise accounts fell 3% to 5,803, while average revenue per enterprise account rose 9% to $46,403. Put simply, the company is earning more from fewer, larger customers. For a large B2B or multi-storefront business, that works fine. For a smaller store, it's a fair reason to ask how much of the roadmap will be built with you in mind.
If You're Comparing Platforms
When BigCommerce merchants ask us about Shopify, we suggest comparing on the things that affect daily work.
- Compare the total cost of platform fees, payment processing, apps, and developer time over three years.
- Compare each checkout's conversion features, accelerated wallets, and how much you can customize it.
- B2B and multi-market needs, if you sell wholesale or in several countries.
- Look at where your product data goes today through feeds and channels, and how it would get there after a move.
- Weigh the migration effort for products, customers, orders and, most importantly, URL redirects to protect search traffic.
Migration Basics
Shopify's migration guide sets out the order: import products first, then customers, then historical orders, so orders connect to the right products and customers. It also warns that page URLs on Shopify will likely differ from your old platform, so old links will break unless you set up redirects, which you can import in bulk from a CSV file. Turn off new order notifications before importing order history, or your staff will get an email for every imported order.
Feeds deserve attention too. Many BigCommerce stores send products to Google, Meta, and marketplaces through Feedonomics. Before you switch, list every channel your products go to and how each feed is built, so nothing drops out of a channel on launch day.
Before Your Renewal
Note your BigCommerce contract renewal date, read the updated agreement when it arrives, and list the features your team depends on most. Ask your account team how the Commerce strategy affects those features. If you want an outside view, get a rough migration estimate so you can make the renewal decision with real numbers.
